At Butterfly World a tropical environment has been carefully recreated to ensure a healthy progression throughout the life cycle of the butterfly. In Britain the increasing use of pesticides and depletion of hedge rows, together with the encroachment of the countryside by urban development have had a drastic effect to the detriment of butterflies. Abroad, the problem is much worse!

Deforestation, slash and burn methods of farming and the wilful destruction of indigenous trees and shrubs to plant pine forests etc. as a quick cash crop have all had and continue to have a devastating effect on the butterfly population. Many species are now in GREAT danger. We hope this insight into the magical world of Butterflies not only gives you a great deal of pleasure and delight, but that it makes you aware of the loss we will all suffer if we allow our wildlife to disappear
